Medical Records Apostille

You may be wondering why do you need to get medical records apostilled? For starters, many countries require it to get married abroad. Obtaining your medical data from your physician is the first step. Tell them you'll need these documents for travel abroad, and they'll get them apostilled.

Because the records must be notarized, I'm telling you this. This requires the doctor to sign the medical records in the presence of a notary public. You can hire a traveling notary to meet you at the doctor's office if they don't have one on staff.

The following are some examples of items that must be recorded:

  • Your blood type

  • HIV test results

  • Hepatitis B & C test results

  • Syphilis test results

  • Having no contagious diseases

Before scheduling a doctor's visit, double-check what tests the destination country requires.

Other situations when a foreign government may seek medical records include:

  • Marrying in a foreign country

  • Adoption from another country

  • Obtaining a work permit

  • Obtaining citizenship or obtaining a permanent visa
